Is there a problem in matchmaking in bedwars?

I have been playing bedrock edition for years but I recently started playing more java. My friend and me often play in bedwars. While we aren't complete noobs, we aren't very good players. Recently I did notice something that was a bit off. Even though we are both very low-level (12 and 14 stars) We often encounter players who are far more skilled than us. Although we try to be competitive, it becomes evident that we are always playing against players who are better than us. This can make the experience less enjoyable.
